What to do w/ days off of School?
Make some dipped candles. All you need is some beeswax, wicks,scissors, a can to melt the wax in.

First:

Second dip:

third dip in the cool water

then back in the hot wax, and repeat. Till you get the candle how big as you want it.
I took some of the wicks w/wax on them and twisted them around a squr and made some pretty candles. We are giving some away for solstice. Sell some at the Winter Gift Fair 30% sales will go our kids school.

Its that time of the year again to make Elderberry Syrups!!

Elderberry is a natural remedy with three flavonoids that have antiviral properties. Flavonoids are very effective against different strains of influenza virus. Black Elderberry also has other compounds, called anthocyanins, which have an anti-inflammatory effect, thus reducing aches and pains. Elderberries contain flavonoids, which are natural chemical substances that give food their taste and color; they also boost the immune system, and supply the body with antioxidant protection.
Elderberry has been shown to be very effective against at least eight strains of flu virus

Why pay $12.89 for a small 4oz bottle when you can do it your self. I usually bottle or freeze mine for medicinal uses. This year I'm trying it w/ ginger root. I'm also putting aside some for wine making!!

You can use the syrup in many ways. I give my kids a teaspoon everyday, to prevent colds. Elderberry syrup great in a glass of sparkling water over ice, dripped some over plain yogurt, atop of vanilla ice cream, pancakes and waffles! You can also use the berries to make Elderberry jelly. Oh yes when I make fruit leather I add some syrup into the mix. Yummy!

Here's a recipe
Elderberry Syrup
Makes 1 quart

Make sure the cookware you're using is non-reactive and your clothes are stain-friendly. If you use an Stainless Steel pot,note spatulas and anything else to plan to use to stir the syrup while it's cooking will stain!

2-pounds (1kg) elderberries (see note below), woody stems removed and rinsed
4 cups (1l) water
2½ (500g) cups sugar
one nice-sized squirt of freshly-squeezed lemon juice(optional)

1. Put the elderberries in a large, non-reactive pot with the water. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat to a low boil and cook for 15-20 minutes, until tender and soft.

2. Pass through a food mill, or cheese cloth and squeeze then discard the skins.

3. Pour the juice back into the pot (I use a fine-mesh strainer again at this point, but I'm crazy...), add sugar, and cook at a low boil over moderate heat for 15 minutes, until the syrup has thickened. Add a spritz of lemon juice. Cool completely.

4. Pour into a bottle or jar and store in the refrigerator. Can or Freeze

This means both beneficial and harmful bacteria are killed. I'm not talking about the Part of the Brain that belongs to the limbic system and plays major roles in long term memory. NO, I'm talking about the Mythical Creature.

The "Hippocampus" dates back to one of the oldest mythical creatures ever transmuted from the human mind to stone, and a particular favorite to the ancient Greeks. Greek words hippos meaning "horse" and campus meaning "sea monster". (Sea Horse) In Greek mythology, Hippocampus refers to a mythical creature on which sea gods rode.

Hippocampus is the elemental Spirit of Water, and represents the energy of Dreams, Emotions, the Unconscious, and Intuition.

WE all must Stand up and do what we can. I know most of us are trying to make our foot print smaller. We recycle (our Recycle can is bigger than our trash can) We compost, garden, by local. We do as many green things as we can. But this is the first time I've heard of this. I'm super excited. I searched youtube and found this video. It made me cry. Our Earth is all we got! We are all connected. We take care of the Earth and in turn we are taken care of. We are going to turn off lights and computer. Light some candles, get out our instruments and play some music. What are you going to do?

Just a Quick post today. Today is my oldest "Adan Aslan Orion Space Smith" birthday today!! Yes that's his whole name. He's 11!! He woke up this morning and then went back to bed. I thought that he wanted to sleep in some. So Brandon, Elijah and I all went about our morning just waiting for him to get up. About an hour later Adan came out and said weren't you going to come and wake me up? Adan said that Elijah told him that Dad would get him up. He was jus waiting all that time. lol

Here's a Picture of Adan and Elijah this morning. Elijah wrapped up lots of cars of his to give to his big brother. Also he made his own card. Usually I'm the one telling my kids lets make a card and make a present or go get one at the store. But Elijah this time did it all on his own. He was super cute and sneeky. He wanted his big brother to be surprised.

Twilight, yes I'm talking about the book and series by Stephanie Meyers. I was given the books from my little brother when I was visiting in Arizona. I read all of the books in a week and a half. They were so good. I couldn't put them down. I just wanted to keep reading more. I felt hollow. I was sad when they were all read. SO I read the forth book over. I recently saw the movie at the dollar theater with Carri, and Rosetta. I must admit after I saw the movie, I was wrapped up in the stories again.

I read Stephanie Meyer's Midnight Sun, her unfinished leaked out book. The story of Twilight from Edward's eyes. I read that and now need to see the movie again. Pretty silly I know. But this Young Adult Novel was very captivating.

Today is Elijah's Birthday!!

Elijah is my youngest son. He's a Big Six years old. He was born in Taos, New Mexico at 12:40 am, in the birthing tub at the Midwifery Center. My Lil early Valentine. He really is such a sweet guy. He's so thoughtful. He's always smiling. If your not happy, he knows. He comes right over and gives you a hug and usually does something funny to make you change your mood. He is the sweetest Lil guy!

So this morning he awoke up with a big shy smile. I started to sing to him. The smile grew even bigger. He got dressed and came out to the living room which was transformed into a birthday fiesta. Balloons and streamers and a Big birthday banner. And Presents sitting on the couch. He didn't see the presents yet. He ate Breakfast(he wanted blueberries with oatmeal) Then he asked do I get a present?

Brandon turned on the radio and put in a tape. The Beatles "Happy Birthday". Its our tradition. Dance around singing along. He opened a few presents and then off to catch the bus. I'll be going to his school later to bring a treat, and to do some Valentines things w/ his class.

Then Brandon is taking off early from work to surprise Elijah. Games, Birthday Dinner, and a few more presents.

Bras with a cause

At the McDonald Theater Last night was the 1st night of the Vagina Monologes. Aysse(Alythered on etsy), Newwana, and I set up to sell the bras we all had made. The power bras with a cause. We had fun, and sold 5 and got some donations for our dear friends. Tonight there will be someone else setting up to take there turn in help selling them. There was about 20 women and 1 sweet little girl (5 1/2) who had made the bras. People loved them. We had 30 decorated bras for the Cause!!

I think we are going to keep having Power bra parties and keep on selling them to raise money. Did you know that each Kimo thearpy is $10,000!! I know that Carri's got insurance but will only cover 80%. She isn't working right now. Did I tell you she's a Dula? Here Husband Bill is working. Its really hard for them to come up with the money. Also the Doctors found a spot on her liver. Cancer on the liver too. Its not right! Carri is so young she's 31. She is soo Positive, such a supper Mama!! I'm in awe.

Its Bras for the Cause!!
A whole bunch of us Lady's have bought a bra to decorate. After we decorate them we will be selling them at the Vagina Monologues on February 9,10th at the McDonald Theatre. To raise money for My friend Carri who has Breast Cancer and another Family School Mom Krista who also has Breast Cancer. We hope to raise money for alternative healing for are friends! See what kind of fun you can have with a few good friends, some great food, and a little imagination. That's what I'll be doing today.

I haven't even told you about the Masquerade Faerie's Ball. I went to the Good Faeries night. When we first walked up to the McDonald Theater, we saw a tree man. He was obviously on stilts. I hear its hard to walk and move slowly on stilts. He was amazing!! He looked like a real tree just walked of the mossy Forrest to come and enjoy the fun at the ball. He had a mask on his whole face, his nose was a little brancy knot. Trillian Green was great!(they are so magically good) and Woodland, was is awesome too. I had a great time. I left my camera home so I didn't have to carry things around. I wish I had brought it though, so many beautifully dressed faeries and elves.

Earlier on that day I had the erge to make a mask to wear, I didn't have any. So I decided to make some out of a leather Shammy. You know the kind you buy at the store in the Automotive section, to polish your car with. I bought one, it was about a 12 inches by 12 inches and only $8.oo

Next I drew on a piece of paper my ideas. Then when I had the design I wanted I drew it onto the leather. I cut it out with my scissors. (its pretty thin) I then got out a bowl and poured equal parts of Liquid Starch(you can get in the laundry section of most grocery stores) and Wood glue or you could use Elmer's glue. I let it soak in for about 20-30 min. Then I took out the masks and got the excess mixture off and gave them a little squeeze.

I then put them on to my manikin heads and formed them a little. I then let them dry. I would of let them dry in there own time. Instead I turned on the blow dryer. Much faster.

Then I punched holes in the sides (where I could tie the elastic onto)
I got out my acrylic paints and started painting them. I used the blow dryer again to help them along to dry. Then they were done and ready to wear. I was surprised on how well they turned out.

We're Back!

Arizona was good. We got to see Family. Some we have never met. I was sure nice to be in Sunny weather that was warm. We were in the 70's the whole time. The last day it was 79'

We were sweating. It was like summer. We flew back to Oregon and divied in to a foggy cloud filled Willamatte Valley and landed got off the plane and boy it was cold. Just a few hours were were dripping.

Its always good to come home again. We are glad to be back. Well Brandon isn't. He really loves AZ, well I do to. Its just I want to say in Oregon. I don't want to move to Arizona. I grew up in Payson which is in the middle of the state. A very small town back then. Population was 5 to 8 thousand. We defently had our four seasons. It has grown some and now its 20-30 thousand.
I just want a place with conscious people, who are doing no just talking about a better future.
Does that community exist in Prescott?

Brandon says its just to damp and cold here in Eugene. He's got mild Arthritis so I know it bothers him. He would like to Move to Prescott AZ when the kids are out of school. I know that in any relationships you need to compormise. We do miss family and friends that we don't get to see since we live so far away.

I love my Oregon. Its so green, the Ocean, waterfalls, the magic. Its really hard for me to even think about leaving. Adan and Elijah feels the same way I do. Arizona is pretty dry, some green just not as emerald as it is here. Lots to think about.

Ok enough rambeling on. While we were in Arizona we had our 2nd Etsy Birthday!!

Also I wanted to let you know, that My Dear Friend Carri, was told she has Breast Cancer. (the day before Christmas) She is going to have Surgery on this Tuesday. She is a great Friend, Wife, a mother of two boys under the age of six. They are such a young family. She is also a Dula and a great on at that. They need help taking care of her bills. They're insurance will not cover everything. SO I decided to put all my goods that I make and sale on Etsy, 100% of all items sold will go to help her out.

So please go to my store and see if there isn't anything you would be able to buy and help a wonderful cause. I'll be adding more little things so more people can help me help her.

Hope everyone had a great Holiday! We did, we stayed home. Its so nice to take it all peaceful and calm. Usually when we stay home it is. When we travel, its just not so relaxing.

YAY! I'm in the next Meet Your Maker on Friday night!!
Should be good. There was a write up in the Eugene Weekly about Handmade in Oregon. It was a nice write up about the artist in the Last Months Meet Your Maker Indie Craft Show. There was a blip about our store. It made me smile.

Hope people have read it and are planing to go to the First Friday art walk down town and stop by the Broadway between 5 and 8pm and have a free wine tasting and come and check out the artist that are going to be selling. They can get caught up on Christmas presents.

Then on Saturday I'm going to be selling at the Eugene Waldorf Winter's Light Fair. It will be Brandon and my 1st time selling there. I hear its a magical fair for the whole family. Our Goal is to sell out of toy airplanes, catapults, and all of my Pixie HoodEs! I think that's a pretty good goal.

We are trying to save up money to go to Arizona and see family in January. We haven't been there in about 5 years. Its kinda hard, our boys haven't even met some of there cousins. It will be a great visit.

Hello all, its Monday again!

1st Monday in November! I really like November, the election is almost over, its my birthday month, and Thanksgiving. All in all its a great month. Leaves are still falling. We had lots of rain this weekend and the colors are all plastered to the streets and sidewalks, it looks so pretty!

Have a great Halloween or Samhain! Tis my favorite Holiday. My boys are both going to be Darth Vader. So I thought it would be pretty funny to be Darth myself (Just for Trick or Treating) SO, I'm going to wear my black cloak a red bow in my hair a apron and oven mitt, I will be "Mama Darth".

A little about Samhain. Samhain celebrates endings, and as such death. It is the transition from light to dark. The growing time is over for this turn of the Wheel and the Earth sleeps. This is the time when we say good-bye to those who have left this existence. Yet it is not a time of sadness.

It reminds us that death is as important a part of the cycle as life. We put items out on the table or alter. Like photos of family,friends, and pets that have pass on. Fruits of the season, like apples or pomegranates will be put out as well.

The Veil between our world and the world of the spirits thins. This makes it a wonderful time to try to see the future and to contact the spirits.

We are also going to go to the Corn Maze should be loads of fun. Candy is my weakness, I'll try and not have a Candy Hang over.

So busy, I didn't get around to post the picture of Brandon's new Catapult. He'll be listing them on etsy next week. He made on of these a few years ago, our boys love it. They use it to make up games to play with it and love to knock down the blocks and little men on the castles.

Hello, I'm so glad its Friday. I've got to get a few things done today.

Still needle Felting on some new hats. I'm also wanting to get in to my sewing again. I miss just creating on my machine. I've been making custom things for people.
